Portraits
Portraits is always a key interest area of my practice. The series is about personal growth and reflection, diving into the self. The subject of the paintings is usually female characters paired with nature, surrounded by a peaceful environment. Most of their faces have a serious expression, body gestures show a love of nature. These figures are constantly in reflection mode, trying to find out for themselves who they are as women, trying to look out and figure out their own life, using inner words to depict what's true to oneself.
Community Series, 2025
Work together help each other move to the next level, to get to their goals. We all witness each other and support each other, to get to our best potential by being part of the community. The characters I portray have a love for each other to flourish in contemporary era. Some of the characters are enmeshed with each other, where personal boundaries become blurred, they are involved in each other's life, whether positive or negative, there's feelings of intimacy, closeness, dependence I try to capture.
Animal Series, 2025
The animal inspired series works as methorphor for my self observation. The animals look kind of human, having human components to them. They are bounding with the master, learning from each other through loving and acceptance. There is no separation of the figures, making animal and human united as one, the trusting caring bound is strongly visible.
Environment Series, 2024
Being part of the environment, the beauty of the outer world affects human mind. My characters are intertwined with the environment, where the plants are just as important as people. The inner world and outer world are combined in these paintings, so they are connected and just as important to each other, as a matter of fact they need earth other, and feed off each other.
Post Anhui Residency Series, 2025
The residency in Anhui, China opened the opportunity to do material experiments that are new to me. The materials I experimented on during the residency was Chinese paper and ink, that inspired me to create larger mixed media works when I'm back to Toronto. I did layering with the paper on my painting, giving the works more depths and textures.
Anhui Residency Series, 2024
My Anhui residency was in the countryside outside six or seven hours from Shanghai. I was creating art amongst large mountains and rivers. It was a beautiful experience, one of my favorite trips of life time. I got to work amongst other artists from around the world, talking about our experiences in the art world. It was fun working amongst each other, observing all the artist in the same studio space, we explored different materials, everyone had their own art style, which was quite exciting to see.
Being in the Chinese culture was also enriching and powerful. The food, the culture, the people, everything added to my paintings just by being in that environment, I was so honored and excited by everything around me, I feel like it enriched my art on so may levels.
Role Play Series, 2024
My artistic process often involves a combination of observation, imagination, and improvisation. Drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as literature, mythology, psychology, and personal experiences, I create compositions that are both mysterious and evocative, encouraging viewers to project their own narratives onto the canvas. Within the painting series, I utilize the concept of role play to investigate the fluid nature of identity and the masks individuals wear in various contexts.
Each canvas serves as a stage where characters emerge, defined not solely by their physical appearance but by the roles they undertake. Ultimately, my paintings act as gateways to parallel worlds where the boundaries between self and other, truth and fiction, become indistinct. By inviting viewers to partake in the act of role play, I aspire to stimulate discussions about the essence of identity, empathy, and human connection in an increasingly intricate and fragmented world.
